  Dining is a favorite pastime in Hyde Park! From delicious home-style diner fare at The Echo, to exotic Indian fusion at Cumin, foodies can feast on all manner of delicacies in area restaurants - most of which are independent. Some establishments of note include: Teller's, which serves upscale meals, beers and wines in a former bank; Red, a classy joint that specializes in steaks and seafood; Beluga, which offers fantastic sushi options and Indigo Casual Gourmet Café, which features Italian cuisine in a warm, relaxed setting. If you happen to like Thai food, you are in luck - Hyde Park has four very popular Thai restaurants: Wild Ginger (with a new outdoor patio and off-street parking), Green Papaya, Bangkok Bistro and Lemongrass.

  Hyde Park Square

  Nightlife in Hyde Park tends toward the elegant – you’re much more likely to find folks sipping wine than playing beer pong. Many of the area’s restaurants offer a wide selection of drinks – some of those more known for their nightlife include Beluga, where trendy folks drink their cocktails to international techno music; Sake Bomb, where the specialty of the house is a shot of fermented rice wine dropped into a pint of beer; and Tellers, which offers an extensive beer menu. For a more informal, pub setting, there’s Arthur’s , Hyde Park Tavern and Mulligan’s Hyde Park Pub. One thing to keep in mind is that parking can be limited or difficult to find – so be prepared to search for street parking.

  Malton Art Gallery

  Hyde Park boasts a number of interesting visual art options. Miller Gallery, which has openings about once monthly, shows works by mid-career artists. Malton Gallery features sculptures of wood, metal, and glass, along with large format art, from more than 100 international artists. One can view original art from cartoonists Jim Borgman and Jeff Stahler at Raymond Gallery at the Framery, or have artwork custom-framed on site. Originalities, a consignment shop that deals in hand-made crafts and artwork, is always an interesting place to browse. Also, once a year, there is a big one-day Art Show on Hyde Park Square, where many local artists exhibit and sell their crafts, paintings, photography, jewelry, and other creative products. The Fine Arts Fund, which supports many area artists and projects, is also located on Hyde Park Square.

  In addition to its beautiful residential landscapes, Hyde Park is also home to enchanting floral displays within its area parks. The bench at Wulsin Triangle, nestled at Madison Road and Observatory Avenue, is a wonderful place for a picnic or an hour with a good book. Another fun way to get a little exercise is by walking through Hyde Park Square. The best place to find a quick escape, though, is neighboring Ault Park, which contains 223 scenic acres, complete with trails, a garden and a Romanesque pavilion. Established in 1911, Ault Park remains one of the city’s most popular parks, especially during wedding season. The park also hosts a classic car show, the Concours d' Elegance, each summer. For those who enjoy tennis, there are courts next to the Ravenswood apartments on Erie.

  Cincinnati Observatory Center - Established 1843

  Wine aficionados will rejoice in the wide selection of wines in Hyde Park – most area restaurants possess a great wine list, and bottles can be purchased at Vineyard Wine Room, Hyde Park Gourmet Food & Wine, and Awakenings. Aspiring astronomers can star gaze at the Cincinnati Observatory Center, the oldest professional observatory facility in the United States, where they periodically host free public viewings and lectures. Craft lovers can learn beading techniques at World of Beads, as well as shop for the jewelry-making materials. Those who have always wanted to try Irish step dancing can do so at the Killeen-McCarthy School of Irish Dance.

  Shopping on Hyde Park Square

  Hyde Park Square abounds with unique specialty shops – there are 40 businesses on Hyde Park Square alone! The selection is amazing, but keep in mind that prices are likely to be high. Window shopping, however, is free and Hyde Park is a great place for that particular sport. On Sundays from June to October, one can find fresh produce at the weekly farmers' market. Arts and craft enthusiasts will enjoy Originalities, a consignment shop for original creations, and World of Beads, a specialty bead store where you can create your jewelry right in the shop. Eye-1 Unique eyewear offers designer frames and shades, Knickers of Hyde Park features lingerie and underwear and Head over Heels specializes in shoes for women with narrow feet. For clothes, Karisma Klothing has upscale denim, Suki stocks name designer (Vivienne Westwood and Dries van Noten) attire and Stocks Men’s Clothier for Canali provides the latest fashions for men. Even dogs can become fashionistas at Hyde Bark, which offers designer dog outfits and accessories.

  One of the city’s best-kept secrets is the economy haircut and style at Aveda, where beauty school students offer their services at a clipped fee (don’t worry, instructors are on hand to make sure everything is done correctly). For a little self-pampering, there are a number of reputable spas and salons, some of which offer exotic-sounding treatments, like the aromatherapy steam shower or the green coffee wrap. A few fancy places to rejuvenate and relax include: Mitchell’s Salon & Day Spa, Avalon Salon & Aesthetic Spa, and Hyde Park Hair & Body Works. For self-maintenance, Equilibrium3 Therapeutic Massage helps work out the kinks and Shine Yoga teaches great ways to stay in shape.
